Fabulous Fox Water Trail

Fabulous Fox Water Trail

Last year, in celebration of Great Outdoors Month and National Trails Day (June), the Secretary of Interior announced nine new national recreation trails in nine states, adding 340 miles to the National Trails System. These newly designed trails joined a network of more than 1,300 existing national recreation trails that can be found in every U.S. state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. These trails are some of our country’s highest caliber trails, can be used by everyone, and provide for the always-increasing recreation needs of our growing population, especially in urban areas.

Aurora is featured on the Fabulous Fox Water Trail. Some fun facts – it runs through 2 states (Illinois and Wisconsin), 8 counties, and 16 dams. Its watershed is 2,648 sq. miles.

Local partners involved in this trail will be able to work together on planning, marketing, infrastructures, outreach, feasibility studies, efforts to attract and retain tourism, and beautifying the trail by providing infrastructures (bike/canoe storage/rentals, restrooms, fountains, signage, etc.).

Marketing will include a loyalty plan that will reward restaurant patrons who used the trail and visited local businesses, geofencing, and inbound marketing.
