The mission of the Public Works Department is to cost effectively plan, design, build and maintain the City's sewer systems, water supply, roadways, parks and public properties to enhance the quality of life for all residents while making Aurora a safe, livable, beautiful and sustainable place to live.

The Engineering Division manages all major improvements to the City infrastructure, including roadway resurfacing and reconstruction, traffic signals, bridges, sanitary and storm sewers, water mains, sidewalks and new developments.

Public Facilities
The Fleet and Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of all City vehicles, equipment, buildings, properties and parking lots, including the two transit centers (ATC and Route 59 Train Station). This division is also responsible for the specific maintenance needs of the downtown central business district, Phillips Park Zoo, City parks and the Phillips Park Golf Course.

Water Production
The Water Production Division of the Public Works Department works to provide the City of Aurora with a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water, at adequate pressure for fire protection, in a cost-effective manner and in full compliance with regulatory requirements.

Water & Sewer Maintenance
The mission of the Water and Sewer Maintenance Division is to supply a quality service to the citizens of Aurora by maintaining Aurora’s underground utility system, properly restoring the surface after excavation, conducting a quality preventive maintenance program, and fostering a cooperative atmosphere with other City departments and external agencies.

Street Maintenance
The Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for providing services for the maintenance of the City streets and parkways. These services include snow removal operations, tree trimming and maintenance of roadway striping, signage, pavements and sidewalks.
