Time Savings Program

ComEd Peak Time Savings Program

The ComEd Peak Time Savings Program offers residential customers the opportunity to earn bill credits by voluntarily reducing electricity usage during periods of high demand. This free program runs annually from May 1 through October 31. Participation helps reduce strain on the electric grid and lowers a household’s carbon footprint.

Eligibility

Residential Customers with a smart meter.

How It Works

  • ComEd announces Peak Time Savings Hours on select hot summer days, typically between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Participants are notified the morning of the event via phone call, text message, or email, based on their communication preferences
  • Customers who reduce their electricity usage below their recent average during these hours will earn credits on their electric bill
  • There is no penalty for not participating in a Peak Time Savings event
  • The credit amount on the energy bill will be based on how much energy usage is reduced during Peak Time Savings Summer Hours compared to what is typically consumed.

Who Should Enroll

This program is especially beneficial for customers who:

  • Have monthly electric bills over $50
  • Heat their homes with electricity
  • Charge electric vehicles at home
  • Can shift energy use to off-peak hours

Program Review

  • Participants receive up to $40 in annual savings
  • ComEd installs a direct load control switch on the side of the home or on the AC compressor panel
  • During a cycling event, the AC compressor is cycled off and on, while the fan may continue to run to maintain indoor comfort
  • Events occur only when needed, typically on the hottest summer days between May 1 and October 31
  • Over the past decade, ComEd has averaged one cycling event per summer

Eligibility

  • Available to homeowners with central air conditioning
