City of Aurora Begins Process To Appoint New Alderman-at-Large
With the recent election of Alderman At-Large John Laesch as the 60th Mayor of Aurora, the City of Aurora has officially opened the process to appoint a new Alderman-at-Large to fill the resulting vacancy on the Aurora City Council.
In accordance with City ordinance, the Mayor has the authority to appoint an individual to serve the remainder of the unexpired four-year term through the next general municipal election, scheduled for April 2027.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a registered voter in the City of Aurora
- Have maintained residency within the City of Aurora for a minimum of one year
- Each alderman shall be a citizen of the United States and of the state, a qualified elector of the city, and a resident of the city for one (1) year next preceding his election or appointment. Each alderman representing a ward shall be a resident of that ward at the time of his election or, in the case of filling a vacancy, of his appointment, and during the time he holds office. No person shall be eligible who is in arrears in his payment of taxes, assessments, fines and service charges levied or assessed by the city. The city council shall be the sole judge of the election to office of its members.

- The application period will remain open through 12 P.M. on Friday, May 16, 2025
- Following the submission deadline, the Mayor’s Office will review all applications and conduct interviews with selected candidates.
