Coyotes Live Here

Aurora, IL Animal Control Coyote Sightings.

In partnership with City of Aurora IL Animal Care and Control, we are spreading awareness on some furry neighbors that we need to keep an eye out for!

Coyote sightings are on the rise again, and we know it can be a little unnerving to spot one in your neighborhood. But the truth is—coyotes are incredibly common in urban areas, including right here in Aurora.

To better support our community, our Aurora Animal Care & Control Team recently attended a training focused on coyotes in urban environments and how to safely coexist. Some big takeaways were:

  • Coyotes are generally not a danger to people.
  • They’re here to stay—removal does NOT work long-term.
  • The best solutions are prevention and hazing:

Prevent: Remove food sources (pet food, trash, fallen fruit, etc.) coyotes may be attracted to.

Haze: Scare off bold coyotes—make loud noises, clap, yell, or use a shaker can until the coyote leaves the area.

Whether you love coyotes, hate coyotes, or don’t think about them much at all, one thing is certain: tame or human-comfortable coyotes are not okay. Coyotes that lose their fear of people are more likely to get into trouble, potentially cause harm, or end up being euthanized.

Let’s work together to keep wildlife wild and our community safe.
