Recycle Coach

Recycle Coach is a proprietary web and mobile tool designed to help local governments easily and quickly communicate information about waste and recycling services to residents.

Recycle Coach can help answer very simple questions, such as "what day does trash and recycling pick up happen in my neighborhood." It can also answer more complicated ones, such as "can the packaging item I have at my house be recycled, and if so, do I put it in my curbside cart or drop it off somewhere?"

  • Illinois EPA has invested in Recycle Coach for the whole state with the goal of improving recycling education and reaching statewide diversion goals

How To Use

Recycle Coach provides an interactive web widget below and a mobile app to guide residents on disposing of household waste, identifying recyclables, and managing non-recyclables.

  • Mobile app users can search items by snapping a picture on their phone
  • English is the default language. Kane County users can choose to use Recycle Coach in Spanish, Polish, Hindi, Tagalog or Arabic. Simply choose your preferred language using the drop-down on the top right of the widget.

Benefits

  • Use of the program will decrease inbound contamination at material recovery facilities in Illinois, increase the amount of material diverted from Illinois landfills, prevent environmental contamination, and ultimately reduce emissions that contribute to climate change.

  • Promoting the 4 R’s: Recycle Coach educates residents on reducing, reusing, recycling, and repurposing; helping the City foster a culture of waste minimization.
  • Recycle Coach ensures residents have 24/7 access to information on what can be recycled and the proper location where it can be disposed of, so it does not end up in a landfill forever.
