Important Information About Our Account Procedures

Federal law requires municipalities to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens or attempts to gain access to an account.

Citizen Actions

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents. When you attempt to access your account, we will verify your identity before providing any account information.

Mission Statement

To provide municipal, financial services of the highest quality to the residents and businesses of the City of Aurora, the City Council, and the city staff, in an efficient and progressive manner, while safeguarding City assets and upholding the Public Trust.

Responsibilities

The Revenue and Collection Division has the following responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the collection and deposit of all revenues due to the City of Aurora.

  2. Responsible for the collection of water bill payments and to credit appropriate accounts.

  3. Responsible for the collection of the real estate transfer tax.

  4. Responsible for the issuance of Statements of Open Accounts prior to the issuance of a real estate transfer tax stamp. This requires that records be searched for delinquencies due on the property sold.

  5. Responsible for the issuance, review and collection of all city invoices.

  6. Responsible for submitting delinquent accounts to an outside collection agency.

  7. Responsible for the registration of all locations that sell prepared food and/or liquor.

  8. Responsible for the collection of the food and beverage tax.

  9. Responsible for the collection of the hotel occupancy tax.

  10. Responsible for the administration of the seizure and impoundment program. Notification, scheduling hearings, conducting hearings and collection of bonds and/or fines.

  11. Responsible for the issuance of various City of Aurora licenses.

  12. Responsible for the sale of garbage stickers and temporary handicap parking decals. 

  13. Responsible for tracking and collecting fees for the Aurora Police Towing Roster. The roster is limited to 12 towing companies. Approval of placement on the roster is the responsibility of the Aurora Police Department.
