CITY OF AURORA WELCOMES DELEGATION FROM CITY OF MORELIA ON MONDAY
The City of Aurora and Mayor John Laesch will be hosting a delegation from Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico that includes City of Morelia Mayor Alfonso Martinez Alcazar on Monday, August 4 at 4 P.M.
The meeting, convened in partnership with El Club Morelia de Illinois, looks to strengthen cultural ties, open channels of communication, and discuss how to build a stronger relationship between Aurora and Morelia. Both leaders are expected to engage in constructive dialogue, promote future collaboration, and support a shared vision that evokes more interconnectivity. Morelia is the most populous city in the State of Michoacán, registering over 740,000 inhabitants in Mexico’s 2020 Census. It also serves as the state’s capital city, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved historical buildings and layout of its historic center or downtown district.
“I’m looking forward to meeting with Mayor Alcazar and strengthening the ties between Morelia and Aurora,” Mayor Laesch said. “This is a great opportunity for the City to expand its international footprint, participate in a valuable exchange of ideas, and increase the opportunity for collaboration between Morelia and Aurora in the future.”
The meeting is set to take place inside of Council Chambers at Aurora City Hall, located at 44 E. Downer Place. The event will be open to the public and Aurora residents who have ties to Michoacán or who want to learn more about this vibrant Mexican state are encouraged to attend.
