City of Aurora Ride Solution (C.A.R.S.) Transportation Program
The City of Aurora is excited to collaborate with selected Community Business Partners to launch this pilot program that provides supplemental transportation to seniors 60 and older and individuals living with disabilities. Upon the conclusion of our Senior and Disabled Listening Tours in 2021 -2022, it was evident that there was a greater need for transportation options for our senior and disabled residents. Well, the City heard the need and is responding with this 6-month pilot transportation program (July – December 2023) that will help gather data while serving a small group of seniors/disabled residents.
The city will be partnering with VNA Health Care, Association for Individual Development, and Senior Services Associates to provide rides, at no cost, to their eligible and approved senior and disabled clients with high priority needs. While all three of these partners currently have transportation programs, the C.A.R.S. program is designed to overcome barriers that prevent them from providing continuous, reliable, affordable, accessible, and unrestricted mileage and geographic access to their clients. The participants in C.A.R.S. can only use rides for medical, nutrition, employment, and wellness/recreation purposes.
