Annual AAHAB Scholarship
The Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board’s vision is to transform the city of Aurora’s African American community into a sustainable, thriving, healthy, and cohesive community; leave a legacy of historic proportions; and bring forth awareness within the community – socially, economically, and culturally.
College Scholarship Requirements Checklist:
- High School Senior in good academic standing with a minimum 2.50 G.P.A. on 4.0 scale (3.50 G.P.A. on 5.0 scale).
- I am of African American descent.
- A resident of Aurora or my home school is located in Aurora.
- Completed, signed, and dated application.
- An official high school transcript– (a) online from high school or transcript service to: AAHABScholarship2025@gmail.com
- One (1) reference from an educator or counselor of your high school who can support your educational excellence and extracurricular activities.
- One (1) reference from an organization where you’ve volunteered and provided community service, preferably on the organization's letterhead.
- Personal essay explaining in 500 words or less how you will use your education to advance the African American community. (Please use Times New Roman, 12 pt font)
- Submit an up-to-date resume (use sample resume as example)
- Signed Assignment of Rights & Consent to Publish Scholarship Information form.
- Submit an ONLINE APPLICATION ONLY. All scholarship applications must be received by FEBRUARY 10, 2026.
Eligible CANDIDATES will be notified by February 24, 2026, and FINAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD notifications will be announced in May 2026.
Please note that a packet will be sent to scholarship awardees requesting additional documentation for distribution of funds, such as a copy of the college acceptance letter, official class schedule, W-9 Form or ITIN#, etc.
The application must be completed in its entirety and submitted as one packet. Failure to do so will result in your application being incomplete and disqualified from the selection process. In order to ensure the scholarship’s integrity, applicants must meet all requirements in order to be deemed an ELIGIBLE CANDIDATE. Please note that all materials submitted become the property of the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board and will not be returned after the selection process.
