City of Aurora Earns Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation Leadership Award!
The City of Aurora earned an Illinois Alliance For Clean Transportation (IACT) Leadership Award, highlighting the City’s forward-thinking approach to operating a more sustainable municipal fleet.
Aurora received the award based on its significant expansion of clean fleet in 2025. 13 new electric vehicles (EVs) and 32 hybrid vehicles were added to the City’s fleet, allowing the City to now have a total of 19 EVs and 47 hybrid vehicles, including 34 hybrid police interceptor utilities. Aurora also boosted EV charging capacity by 90 percent with nine new dual-port Level 2 chargers installed throughout the City. These initiatives, spearheaded by the City’s Fleet Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, and Purchasing Divisions, have led to lower fuel use, a reduction of idling and emissions, and longer fleet service intervals.
“We are honored to receive this award from the IACT,” Superintendent of Fleet Maintenance, Chris Linville, said. “We will continue to modernize our fleet, working hard to reduce emissions and support our sustainability goals.”
“This award is a result of some of the small steps we have taken towards a more sustainable Aurora,” Mayor John Laesch said. “We will continue charting a more robust path towards energy efficiency programs that save more money for home and business owners in Aurora.” The IACT Leadership Awards are given annually to organizations and individuals who impact the reduction of vehicle emissions that improve air quality.
