Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Transit Advisory Board To Host Bike Rodeo
Published on April 24, 2026
The City of Aurora’s Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Transit Authority Board will host a free Children’s Bike Rodeo on Saturday, April 25.
In partnership with Resurrection Lutheran Church & School, the event will focus on bike safety and feature an interactive, supervised riding course. Children in pre-school through 8th grade are welcome to attend, but all participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to complete a waiver for participation.
The Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Transit Advisory Board plans and develops public facilities for bicycle, pedestrian, and transit activities in Aurora. Advocating for the use of the city’s extensive walking and biking trails, the Board hosts activities that promote responsible biking habits.
Saturday’s Children’s Bike Rodeo will see young riders learn more about proper helmet fit, yielding practice, safe starts and stops, and obstacle avoidance.
Dave Horner, Vice Chair of the Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Transit Authority Board in Aurora, said that building children’s confidence in biking is essential, with Saturday’s event featuring exercises to help them navigate challenging road situations.
“It’s important we help children process and practice the fundamentals...teach them to stay alert, look around, communicate, and always be cautious around vehicles,” Horner said.
The Bicycle Rodeo is currently slated to have close to 75 children present, with a goal to encourage young children’s confidence in their biking skills, spatial awareness, and agility. The event will feature controlled routes and biking situations to challenge young riders to learn these skills in a safe, secure environment.
Horner said that whether kids ride to the park, to school, or to a friend’s house, the Bike Rodeo will enable children to grow as independent, responsible cyclists, with hope that Aurora will soon become the next bicycle capital of Illinois.
The City of Aurora Children’s Bike Rodeo will take place Saturday, April 25, from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. at 2567 West Sullivan Road in Aurora. For more information on the event, please visit https://www.facebook.com/share/1B5A32ddZM/.
