Street Closure Permit

What is a Street Closure?

Street closure permit requests are for group events of under 350 people and include, but are not limited to, not-for-profit organizations, schools and churches.  These events are primarily utilizing the private property of the organizer(s), but may require that adjacent streets be closed for the safety of those in attendance.  

Upon request for a street closure permit, the City of Aurora Street Department will deliver the respective quantity of barricades that will need to be utilized by the event organizer(s).  

Note that these requested street closures will not include major streets nor major collector streets.

Priority

Permits will not be issued for personal, family or political events such as birthday parties, weddings, quinceaneras, fund raisers, political gatherings, etc.

Street barricades are on a first come, first serve basis and may be limited at the discretion of the City of Aurora Street Department (630-256-3680).

Permit Process

The permit application process begins when you submit a completed Street Closure Permit Application to the City of Aurora Aldermen’s Office.  Keep in mind that receipt of your application should in no way be construed as final approval or confirmation of your request.  A representative from the Aldermen’s Office will contact you upon receiving the application and thereafter will serve as your primary point of contact for the processing of your permit.  

Copies of the application are forwarded and reviewed by all affected City departments. You may be contacted individually by these departments if they have specific questions or concerns about your event.  Throughout the review process, you will be notified if your event requires any additional information.

During the initial application review process, you will be allowed time to provide us with all pending documents (e.g. certificates of insurance, secondary permits, etc.) Additional items must be received before issuance of a street closure permit.  Delays in providing additional documentation can delay our ability to finish the review process and approve your application in a timely manner.
