  • Mediation allows parties to reach long-term, sustainable outcomes, decreasing repeat eviction filing.
  • Faster resolution compared to traditional eviction process.
  • Mediation sessions are private, allowing both parties to discuss their concerns openly, protecting their reputations, and ensuring sensitive issues do not become public knowledge.
  • Opportunity to remain housed is greater.

What Eviction Mediation is NOT

Court proceedings/court case: It is a cooperative way to talk, not a trial. The mediator does not make decisions for you.

A way to force agreement: Both the landlord and tenant have to want to find a solution together. If someone does not want to talk, it will not work.

For serious problems: If there are significant safety issues or broken laws, mediation might not be the right answer.

A guaranteed fix: Sometimes, even after talking, there may not be agreement, and going to court may be the only viable solution.
