In 1996, the City created a Public Art Department and opened the David L. Pierce Art and History Center at 20 E Downer Place, shared by the City of Aurora Public Art Department and the non-profit Aurora Historical Society. Aurora Public Art manages murals and outdoor installations seasonally, and presents 6 exhibits and 12 events per year in the City's formal gallery on the third floor of the David L. Pierce Art & History Center. The mission of Aurora Public Art is to present public art in all its forms and provide a formal art presence for the residents of the City of Aurora.
